Norfund wishes to contribute to more business activity, particularly enterprises in the start-up phase which have difficulty in attracting risk capital. We define start-up enterprise investments as those projects in which Norfund is involved right from the development phase of the project, be it in a hydroelectric power station, a bank or an avocado plantation. In the context of funds, the definition applies when a first-generation fund manager sets up a new, innovative fund (i.e. a fund in a new geographical area or a new type of fund).
Of Norfund’s new investments in 2010, 20 per cent were in start-up enterprises (see chart on the right). We wish to increase this share in the years ahead. |
