Founded in 2004, Proximity Designs (or “the organization”) is a not-for-profit social venture that locally designs and develops low cost products and services for small and rural farmers in Myanmar (“the country”). In 2010, Proximity Designs began to operate micro lending program, also known as Proximity Finance, providing crop loans to rural farmers. NF has a USD 2 million loan equivalent in KYAT with Proximity Finance.
In 2012, Proximity obtained its microfinance license, enabling it to significantly expand a pilot farm loan program first established in five townships in the Ayerwaddy Delta.
In 2013, Norfund's loan to Proximity Design was the first external loan to a Myanmar based microfinance operator.
Today, Proximity Design is an award winning social enterprise, providing income boosting products and services to rural smallholders, including irrigation and energy products, farming advisory services, and microloans. Since inception in 2004, Proximity has delivered products and services to over 2.5 million rural households in Myanmar.
